Healthcare. The Republican Suicide Vehicle

September 8, 2009

“You wanna play rough? OK! I play rough! Say hello to my little friend!” -Al Pachino as Scarface

The healthcare debate is like an aggressive chess game. The Republicans are busy with their own brand of cheerleaders and sideshows. They have figured out a way to enlist those who oppose the president to aid in their special brand of cheering. Or booing or what have you. Meanwhile, their best people are towing the party line instead of coming up with alternative ideas that will provide the uninsured with healthcare. You might think they aren’t interested in getting the uninsured insurance. They seem to have focused on keeping things as they have been.

I am smart enough to know that every yahoo screaming misplaced insinuations that Obama is somehow like a Nazi is a fucking moron. I am smart enough to know that there are good republicans (?) who have valid concerns about how we will pay for any and or everything. And these people’s voices cannot be heard at the moment. Some of them aren’t speaking up. Some of them aren’t speaking up because they have nothing to say. Some of them aren’t speaking up because they don’t exactly disagree with the plan in general and are taking a wait and see approach. These are the people who need to speak up.

Im not disappointed at the ignorant followers who don’t know any Jews and have no idea what happened in Nazi Germany but who know that their leadership keeps urging them to unite and dispute these ‘changes’ as being Nazi like. Im surprised the Republican foot soldiers aren’t whispering to their constituents that the new president wants to enslave them and make them pick cotton and not pay them. Yes sir. I’m surprised they haven;t used slavery as a scare tactic for their hurt and confused base. It would make about as much sense. Which, incase my idea isn’t clear….doesn’t.

I am disappointed in the Republicans I know and like who are sitting back quietly and watching the madness without making a point to themselves and others that there is a rational voice that can disagree with reason and without thinly veiled hate and hurt feelings. I know there are Republicans out there with ideas to add to the debate. I know there are. But trying to find them is hard when the party is busy with misdirection instead of valid ideas.

I am a registered Independent. I every election I have voted in I made my own ballot. I never voted straight party for either side. People like me, who actually look at more than the party when considering a vote… we like to know what you claim you will do once in office. I know you probably won’t do that but I would like to know what you would do if you could.

Our president might actually get something done that he said he would. Neat idea. Currently he is taking a beating with all the side issues. But the fact of the matter is, if he wants reform he can kick his party in the ass and get it. So if you aren’t on his side and he will get some form of reform… and he is asking you for your help and support… shouldnt you consider adding valuable input? Shouldnt you raise your concerns and your possible solutions?

Because if he wants to play rough isn’t it likely that you will lose? And if you do loose doesn’t that mean you are basically going to be sitting with your fingers crossed, hoping that the president’s policy fail? Because what happens if you and yours have opposed something that works out and ends up being popular? Seems to me like you are taking a gamble. A big one. One that if it doesnt pay off could mean the end of your career in public service. And if you are gambling with your life, isnt that like suicide?

You can pull out all the stops and mislead and misinform. But if you lose what then? Political suicide? What then? No one in the Republican leadership is looking ahead. They never figured Obama would become president and they are still trying to get up off the mat from that. They never saw it coming. They still haven’t gotten over one of their best in Colin Powell endorsed Obama. They never saw it coming. They never could make up for picking the wrong vice presidential candidate in an election they should not have lost. They never saw that comming. The first question is why didn’t they? The second question is what arent they seeing now?

(I would like to suggest that much like the power of the internet in the last presidential campaign, the GOP is focused on winning elections in an era that is gone and wont ever come back. There is no new thinking. You can only scare so many old people into voting. Young people vote now too. And there are places where the GOP has nothing to offer young people. On closer examination there isn’t much they have to offer at all…. Except the prospect of having to work to win states they used to win easily…)

No clear leadership. The only agreement is that Obama is the enemy. And they have not offered ideas to counter the policies that will end up being healthcare reform. They don’t see it coming. Three years from now, what will The Grand Old Party not see coming that in hind sight we will have all seen?

When Obama whips out his ‘little friend’ and gets some form of healthcare and the GOP celebrate the things they had removed as victory.. we may one day look back on that as the day they fell on their sword and killed their party as we have known it.

Thats Some Mean Pussy….

June 24, 2009

South Carolina governor Mark Sanford, who was missing for a little while now, went to Argentina to go see his lover. The governor is married and has four children.. He also happens to have a fairly important job as A GOVERNOR. He dropped everything and I mean everything to go south of the boarder to get a little south of the boarder….

I mean… he just said, ‘fuck it’ and had to go get it. Now we have all been home in bed and gotten that phone call that makes you get up and get dressed at 2am when you need to be out the door for work at 5:30am. You have been convinced of the importance of the moment and your counterpart has said any number of magical things that wakes you instantly and makes you feel rested in no time. However, that’s a short across town car trip. This cat went to a different hemisphere. That’s some mean pussy right there…. Make you throw away love for some lust… Make you destroy your own family just so you can have something you know you shouldnt have… Thats some mean pussy right there! May you never know the destructive allure of this fantastic thing of beauty.

California voters are the craziest

June 18, 2009

I have recently learned from a friend who used to live in California that there was once a referendum put out that asked the voters did they want to raise taxes or vote to discontinue public school buses thought the state. The peoples voted there be no public school buses.

Now. I have not had a chance to do my research and confirm this however, I have no reason to doubt it is true. In passing I asked him about a skit on the Daily Show and he dropped that little bombshell on me.

With all the shit I like to talk (and boy do I) I had nothing to say to that. I can only repeat that which I have been given as fact. California voters did not want to raise taxes. The taxes would go to provide the state’s children with transportation to and from school. They voted against the tax even though they knew they might be killing school buses all over the state. Wow.

Fuckin incredible….

Okay okay… So I have a couple few questions…. Do they not understand that taxes pay for services? Are they so self concerned that what other people and their kids need not matter at all? Do they not understand or do they not care? Sometimes I wonder how fucked up the country would be if we the tax payers could INSIST our monies go where WE wanted them to…. What does the average person think is not important enough for their tax money?

California voters once said public school buses.

Radical Muslims Everywhere Decry, “Death To Windows!”

April 30, 2009

This just in. Radical Muslims everywhere can be seen in the streets chanting, “Death To Windows!” Our attempts to reach Microsoft founder and CEO Bill Gates have gone unanswered. A spokesperson was heard asking, “What the fuck is this?”

Rumors abound that these militants want to see Windows in all it’s forms destroyed. Despite the fact that we have no source to confirm it, we are reporting that allegidly, this man is behind the recent uproar.

pengu Pengu Ibn Al Penguin. Wanted by everyone who knows that open source is the key to growing the future of software development. Interpol has no information about him and they suggest that their windows based systems keep them from knowing. With the steady stream of viri and windows related crashes, Mr. Penguin hopes to rid the world of the infidel Windows.

EDITOR’S NOTE:

The writer is the only muslim who hates Windows. He is not a radical. Full disclosure, he once fancied himself a Windows Admin. He has left what he calls “the dark side” for Ubuntu and is hoping to convince the world that windows is evil. Please make a note of this.

Take A Picture

April 28, 2009

“Remember it. Write it down. Take a picture. I don’t give a fuck!” -Chris Tucker in “Friday”

Look. I’m on record as saying I hate pictures. I lost a good friend because I refused to take a picture. For years I quoted what I attributed to the Hopi tribe, a quote about pictures. “If you take a picture you take a piece of the soul.” I always followed that statement up by saying that I didn’t necessarily believe that but what if its true?

That said, I think a picture is a special thing that may or may not have a piece of who you are in it. In my opinion, then, there are good pictures and bad pictures. Some people are always willing to get into a photo op. There are some pictures you shouldn’t take. If you Google Chicago Ghetto Prom Pictures I think you will find a few pictures of my cousin ‘n’em, in some shots that they should never have taken. When I see those pics the only thing I can think is…. they posed for that? Questionable decision. But hey. Other than being funny for people who don’t know and being a source of shame for those of us who do, the multiple underage girls backshot in matching Gucci homemade dresses doesn’t hurt anyone. The big girl in the middle might make someone cringe but no one panics. (She doesn’t know that thongs are not for everyone…) Its just a dumb ass picture. Terrible judgement. Not harmful. Not Criminal.

However, when the government wastes fuel flying a jumbo jet and two fighter jets in and around the New York New Jersey area given all the things those people have had to deal with, its beyond reckless. It might just be criminal. It is certainly more than just bad judgement. The media outlets I read and watch claimed people poured out of their apartments and offices fearing the worse. And for what? So the white house could get a good picture of the presidential jet? Anybody bother explaining to these muthafuckers what Photoshop is?

Dumb ass.

You cant sell fiscal responsibility when you waste money scaring the shit out of people. If you had a decent IT department you could have saved money.  So how do we deal with this and other poor judgement issues that our new president finds himself in? How do we approach the white house if and when they make mistakes?

We should not be any harder on Obama  or any easier on him than we would be with any one else. Hold this white house to the same standard anyone else (white) would be held to. This photo op was a dumb ass move and someone should loose their job over it. I wouldn’t be mad if someone was charged with conspiracy to incite a riot. But if they wont seek charges against people who tortured because their bosses told them to, then this won’t ever get to that point. How could it?
