From time to time we find ourselves in positions that seem to have no good end. Being stuck between a rock and a hard place is a conundrum. How we handle this shows who we are.
Example #1
A hot up and coming team with a history of being less than average is on the verge of doing something that has only been done thirteen times before. Inevitably the talk of the undefeated season starts up. The team they are set to play used to be the gold standard. The team they are set to play was the last team to complete the regular season unbeaten. Outstanding feat but they did not win the ultimate game. In fact they haven’t won it in a few years. But this team still holds a type of reverence in the national sports media outlets. To put it more succinctly, they guys aren’t as good as they once were but the hype has had them defeating teams they aren’t able to beat. The national sports outlets have not admitted or accepted that these guys are a shell of their former selves.
At the same time they have been pulling the bandwagon for the home team. Herein lies the conundrum. What happens when your own immoveable hype meets your own unstoppable man crush?
You ride the fence. You pick one team over the other but you give more reasons why they team you picked could lose than you do why your pick can win. And in the end, your paycheck isn’t riding on it or anything.
Example #2
So its late and your girl has been bitching at you. No big deal. maybe you been out getting some brains from somewhere else. You have that coming. She throws you out your house and you hop in the ride. Yeah yeah. I’ll be back when you calm the fuck down baby. You put the ride in drive and address her yelling at you. She goes all ninja on you and whips out a golf club. She goes to town on the car. You are trying to stop her and in the commotion your foot comes off the brake. Slowly you roll forward. She thinks you are disrespecting her and starts banging on the ride. You get the appropriate level of mad and them BAM! The whip bites a tree and a fire hydrant. You hop out the ride on fire like Habanero pepper. She knocks your punk ass out. When you wont come to right away she freaks out and yells and your neighbor (who was up listening to yall argue) calls the cops.
Now. Do you want the world to know that your lady swung for the hole on a par four 330 yard hole in one stroke and hit the pin! You dont want your international whores to have to be reviled. Plus you dont want to admit your lady knocked your ass out. So what do you do? What do you do? Try doing nothing and hoping it all goes away.
Good luck.
Example #3
You may or may not have worked at a job for over thirty years and find yourself being pushed out by the weight of your own high standards. You may have people pushing you out the door of a place that has a statue of you out front. You want one more year because you deserve whatever you want. But who wants a job that doesnt want them? What do you do?
Example #4
The one I have been waiting for. You got your job when a very questionably racist undertones wanted the black guy gone. You had never been a head coach and you came in with all the gusto of a john with a pocket full of money in a $2 whorehouse. Your first two seasons mimicked they guy you were supposed to do better than. You claimed that they were his players and wait for your recruits to start coming in. And based on that you dupped or should I say conned, your way into a contract extension… YOU HAD THE SAME RECORD AS THE GUY YOU REPLACED! He got fired while you got an extension. What the fuck kind of shit is that?
Then. You did get your own players and you did worse than the guy you replaced. Aint that a bitch. Your school is still stuck in the 1960s. You cry because your academic standards are high and you cant win no matter how easy your schedule is. Punk bitch. Take all that shit you talked about what was unacceptable and ride off into the sunset with your buyout. You conned the dumbasses now lets see who you can con next. Hey. There is a black coach in Chicago who you can replace and do worse than.
